The Basics of Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow is not exactly the nicest feeling in the world. It has a sharp pain to it and it can be relatively debilitating. And, contrary to what the name implies, tennis elbow is not a condition that is exclusive to those who play tennis. Athletes of any sport can suffer from such a malady.

So what exactly is tennis elbow? In a nutshell, tennis elbow is the inflammation of the elbow and surrounding area of the elbow. This inflammation is fairly painful although not extremely painful. It is painful enough to briefly limit life activities so tennis elbow is a condition that should be addressed and properly cared for so as not to make the condition worse nor delay the healing process.

This condition is caused by small tears called micro tears that occur during the execution of certain activities, mainly sporting activities, and it pretty much unavoidable if one lives and active life that revolves around athletic hobbies. So what happens when one wants to treat tennis elbow?

Usually the best way to treat this condition is to simply give the elbow total rest. That is, do not continue activities that are going to retard the healing process in any way, shape or form.

If one can not give the elbow complete rest, then it is best to restrict the activity that caused the micro tears. Another thing one might wish to do is to wrap one’s elbow so as to lessen the worsening of the condition.

This condition is not the end of the world, but it is a fairly annoying condition to come down with. If one suffers from it, and athletes will eventually suffer from it at one time or another, one simply needs to take the necessary steps to lessen the pain and minimize the healing time.
